Iconic Factory
Re-development

Slough, Berkshire

Thousands of door ironmongery products were supplied by Denleigh for the Horlicks Quarter Re-development, a landmark urban regeneration scheme and one of largest of its kind in the South.

Berkeley Homes have carefully transformed the historic Horlicks factory site in Slough, into a large collection of stylish apartments, penthouses and town houses. The site was acquired shortly after the factory was shut in 2018 after 110 years of producing the malted milk drink. Its careful repurposing is leading to the creation of over 1300 high-specification new homes, greatly boosting the regions much needed housing stock and is part of a wider regeneration of the town.

Denleigh carefully listened to the client’s requirements before proposing schedules of ironmongery covering the internal door needs of over 500 plots. This was greatly assisted by our close relationship with Berkeley and experience on large residential projects.

Modern Door Handles

Two main door handles were chosen. For the main apartment blocks we sourced a handle outside our standard range, featuring a stylish round sectional lever with shaped front and stem neck. The handles stainless steel construction and dual finish accentuate the modern design and quality feel, making a great impression.

For affordable housing plots we supplied our LR503C Lever handle on a sprung round rose with a satin stainless steel finish. This handle has proven its exceptional reliability and value on many of our projects. Both handles come with a 10 year warranty.

Ironmongery Packages

For five blocks on this landmark development, we supplied thousands of compatible door ironmongery items ensuring the safe and reliable performance of every door set. Products were supplied in matching finishes and ranged from door hinges to locks and latches, bathroom turn and release, door closers and fire door signage.

Deliveries were scheduled by plot number to maximise the installation efficiency and our experienced team provided project management throughout.

A successful legacy

The factory which dates from 1908 has been renovated into apartments, whilst the original clock tower, office entrance, grade II listed war memorial and the iconic chimney have been retained, cementing the historic legacy of the site.
